Living the Wonderland Gardens Experience

Wonderland Gardens offers a variety of Green living activities for young children, teens, adults and seniors.  These forums allow for individuals to engage in activities that promote a healthier, Green-Centered, and well-rounded life. Our programs include:

  • Life Skills: Provide valuable and applicable life learning through gardening and Green living traditions.  The classes inform participants about Green career choices and provide hands-on Green entrepreneurship training through the development of Green businesses based upon the planting, harvesting, and selling garden based products.
  • Green Living: Offers practical training sessions for children, teens, adults and seniors about the benefits of sustainable living through recycling, organic gardening, nutrition, healthy cooking and lifestyle classes such as “Clean Green.”

The winter 2011 class schedule is coming soon.

The classes will be held in the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center location 3181 Rainbow Drive, Decatur, GA 30034

NEW HEALTH INITIATIVES

WONDERLAND GARDENS PIONEERS NEW HEALTH INITIATIVES SUCH AS THE NEW WEIGHT OFF WISELY (WOW) FACTOR PROGRAM THAT POSITIVELY IMPACTS THE COMMUNITY BY ILLUSTRATING THE PRINCIPLES OF NUTRITION AND WELLNESS EDUCATION.

BETTERING THE HEALTH OF OUR COMMUNITY

The goal of Wonderland Garden’s Health Initiative’s is to use education as a vehicle to improve the health of the community. Their focus is to change negative eating habits that kill slowly but surely. The Health Initiative provides programs that target specific groups within the life cycle of the community, for example, children, adults and seniors. We objective of the programs are to save lives. This is accomplished via the provision of basic nutrition education that includes the following: How food is grown, the nutritious preparation of food, and the relationship between health and food choices.

PROGRAMS INCLUDE:

The WOW FactorTargeting those 50 plus pounds overweight

Nutrition 101 and 102Teaching basic nutrition with healthy cooking demos

Nutrition Boot CampTargeting  parents, children, & the business community

The WOW Factor for seniors

YogoCreating balance in the body through strength and flexibility.

 

WEIGHT OFF WISELY (WOW) FACTOR

Mission

To educate our community on the importance of a diet of fruits and vegetables and to emphasize the superior nutritional value in local, organically grown, and properly prepared food.

Goal

To create an awareness for the importance of maximizing our vegetable and fruit intake and minimize an over indulgence of meat

Objectives

• Teach raw food preparation and increase the vitamins, minerals and enzymes that food has to offer

• Influence participants to begin more home food preparation and to reject fast foods

Introduction

We believe that you can’t fail to balance your health through primary consumption of properly prepared produce, water and exercise. The WOW Factor targets people that are more than fifty pounds overweight and includes weekly medical over sight, fitness and nutrition classes with cooking demonstrations, and tasting opportunities.

Program

• The program is twelve weeks in duration and cost is $75.00 or $35.00 per week

• Each participant commits to the following:

o Maintaining a daily food log which is turned in weekly

o Tasting foods that they may have never tasted

o Tasting unfamiliar foods prepared in a different and healthier way

o Weekly support meetings which include medical oversight (blood pressure and weight checking) a fitness workout,   and a nutrition/healthy cooking class

o Participants can choose Monday or Wednesday from 6 pm-8 pm

o Exercising at 3+ days a week with one day as a fitness workout weekly meeting
